Under a Charente Sky

With little or no light pollution you will enjoy viewing the night sky from our meadow or pool area. Breathtaking just isn't an adequate enough phrase to explain the magnificent views afforded by the night sky from this part of the Charente.

The Charente Region

The Charente is a region with a very strong cultural and natural heritage. Stay in one of our Gites and enjoy a pleasant and relaxing holiday whilst exploring the area and its many open-air activities typical of the Charente.

Explore the many varied cycle routes to suit all ages. Perhaps an easy 3km ride into the local village is more your style.

Villages, towns, markets and chateaux to visit

Too numerous to record them all but consider a shopping trip to Angouleme, Poitiers, either driving or by train from Ruffec for a larger and varied selection of shops, department stores, independent retailers and markets.

For a day out to the coast consider either La Rochelle, with its magnificent historic harbour and fantastic restaurants or the Royan, which has an amazing beach area that is surrounded by cafes, bars and a casino if you like a flutter at the gaming tables.

Visit some of the local towns and villages to experience everyday French life such as Ruffec with its twice weekly market, Verteuil-sur-Charente with its imposing Chateau and other specialist markets.

You may prefer a family a trip to Futuroscope with it's space themed rides and daily entertainment shows. Located at Chasseneuil-du-Poitou, just north of Poitiers about an hour by car.

La Vallee Des Singes, a monkey animal park founded in 1998, there are no cages, no fences but 450 monkeys live freely in 22 hectares.

Maybe a visit local vineyards or brewery such as Charente Ales. Cognac is only a short drive away or the Hennessy vineyard and distillery.

Local Restaurants, Bars and Tabacs

Take your pick from a large selection of restaurants and bars within easy reach of BoHo Gites. From authentic rural French restaurants to fine dining in amazing surroundings or maybe just a glass of wine and a snack at a local venue.

Our Local Bar - L'Etoile D'Or, Villefagnan

Just a short 3 km drive away (or a brisk stroll) is our local bar restaurant. Great for a drink with the locals or a meal on those days you just don't want to prepare something.
